Remembering our dead 2008
Today is the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance, where the trans communities remember those of us who died violently almost 40 this year. Given the relative sizes of the LGB and T communities, it’s probably comparable to 400 gays and lesbians being killed annually. (Huuuullo… Mike Huckabee.) Not every identified themselves as trans—i.e. a transsexual, crossdresser, transvestite, drag queen/king, gender queer, etc. The best known of the victims—Lawrence King—may have been on his way to growing

Interesting, If Not Lucrative
Where to start? The newsflow over the past twenty four hours has been very interesting indeed, as has the price action. Not that it’s been a particularly lucrative twenty four hours….despite trying to rise over the noise, Macro Man has managed to top and tail himself a couple of times. Fun, fun, fun…..or B. So yesterday, US CPI fell 1% m/m, the largest monthly decline in the history of the series by a fairly wide margin. Frankly, Macro Man isn’t quite sure what to make of this. On the one han

Eurasian Education Union (Uluslararası Avrasya Eğitim Sendikaları Birliği) supports Turkish as common language for Turkic republics
Here's a tiny piece on a Eurasian Education Union (Uluslararası Avrasya Eğitim Sendikaları Birliği, nice of a union of teachers' unions I think) that gathered in Baku, Azerbaijan, from the 3rd to the 4th of November. Apparently they criticized Armenia in the gathering because of the part of Azerbaijan Armenia still has below its control, but the more interesting part (to me as a student of languages that is) is that they also supported Turkish as the common language for Turkic republics, namely
